Precious Metals Preview: COMEX gold extends upside near record highs

COMEX gold extends upside on Monday morning in Asia to quote at $4065.80 an ounce. The yellow metal climbed back above $4000 per ounce on Friday, heading for an eighth straight weekly gain after touching a record high of $4081 last week. Political upheavals in France and Japan, ongoing global economic uncertainty compounded by the U.S. government shutdown and market expectations of a rate cut by U.S. central bank together contributed to gains in the yellow metal. Meanwhile, Trump has threatened to massively increase tariffs on China in retaliation for export curbs on its rare earth minerals essential for manufacturing and technology.
