EC to hold biennial and by elections to the Council of States from Kerala and Uttar Pradesh

The Election Commission (EC) of India has announced biennial elections to the Council of States from Kerala and by election to the Council of States from Uttar Pradesh.

The Commission has decided to hold the elections as the term of office of 3 members of the Council of States from Kerala is due to expire on their retirement on 1 July 2012. Also, there is a casual vacancy in the Council of States from Uttar Pradesh due to the death of Brijbhusan on 25 April 2012 whose term of office was upto 2 April 2018.

The EC will issue the notifications for the above said elections on Friday, 8 June 2012 and the polling will be held on Monday, 25 June 2012 from 9 am to 4 pm. The votes will be counted on the same day at 5 pm.
